90% of the book is on point... where I have issues with it is the section for women.... It's super offensive and I don't know how someone told him it was unnecessary.1) The points are reiterating the tips in up to that point so it's really unnecessary just from a book perspective.2) It makes the assumption that women don't/don't like too strength or cross train... but me and my female friends do those things more than my male friends.3) It makes the assumption that women don't boulder...4) It makes the assumption that women don't "try hard" or work problems/route...5) It shows the female doing a 5.6 route...5) The last sentence tells females to lose weight... without any comment on assessing if the person needs to lose weight...... it's like he's never heard of Margo Hayes, Ashima, Sasha, Puccio, Kyra Condie, Anna Stohr, Julie Wurm or any of the other amazing crushers...The over fifty section and junior sections were done well as they consisted of stuff that wasn't earlier in the book.Overall the book was good... that section just needs to be removed though.

This book has some really good information for the occasional climber with a lot of pictures to help develop proper technique. I used it when I was climbing more consistently and it helped me build up strength without injury. I never went beyong a beginner/intermediate level so I cannot speak for its use by advanced climbers.

This is a comprehensive guide that I would recommend to anyone that wants to improve their climbing. The book has a lot of focus on injury prevention, sport specific conditioning (obviously), general conditioning, nutrition and training micro and macro cycles. I'm sure I missed something, but I can definitely tell you it has made me a better climber overall, after reading it sparingly.Getting advice from other climbers at the gym and at the crag is good and much appreciated, but this book helps you find your weaknesses as a climber with a great self-assessment questionnaire, and outlines what you need to do to get better.

Horst is prolific in this space and knows what he is talking about. This has some excellent tips for conditioning, especially in the area of injury prevention. I have worked many of the exercises listed within into my conditioning program with good results. The only caveat is that he tends to overemphasize sport-specificity to the point of making general conditioning seem under-important.Particularly useful are the self-evaluation questionnaires, which can identify the particular area you need to train (and not just physical training, which is covered by this book, but also technical and mental training). While these self-evaluations are a part of all of Horst's books (including Training or Climbing, and How to Climb 5.12), the evaluations in this book are much more elaborate than those in any of the others. In spite of a lot of overlap with Training for Climbing and How to Climb 5.12, every climber should still have this book in his or her library.

I'm a fairly new climber and this book has really given me a good guide to reaching the goals I want to reach. It was also recommended by my uncle who climbed El Cap' in '88 so he's been around the block. If you want to work out in a way that will improve your climbing this book is a must read.

Good book for understanding how to develop a thoughtful climbing fitness routine.

I am appellate lawyer who deals with Constitutional law and I bought this book as a reference text. This is a great book. It sets out, in a very organized way, the United States Constitution. It then breaks down each section by clause in detail, following each clause with a historical essay by leading legal scholars. I have only begun to read this book but so far it is wonderfully informative. I especially appreciate the translation of all the 'legalese' and the historical anecdotes. This book is for anyone who loves the United States and wants to learn more about how we got to where we are today.

Excllent book on everything that is the foundation of the United States! You can use the book two ways. First, you can just read it it cover to cover (recommended), and second, you can use as a reference. I am continually amazed that there are so few citizens who have read and understood the Constitution. This book helps you achieve both.

Excellent b mute Constitution and related documents, teaches you what you should have learned in school. All US high Schools should use this book and a Constitution course should be mandatory before graduating high school. Teaches how our Federal Govt should work and what it is actually authorized to do, and what authority resides at the state levels. I highly recommend the book. The only problem is that it is physically a large book.

With all the resent discussions of Constitutional violation by our government, I've already been able to thoroughly review several current issues. I cannot say enough how thankful I am for this book. It break down every line of U.S. Constitution with the cases and explanations. Plus, it is a very nice, solid, and necessary book to have in your library. I cannot say and emphasize enough how good this book is. For this price, it is a mandatory for anybody in a legal field.

This book will be my new best friend. It made constitutional law much more clearer. I especially liked the historical stories that ran with each Article, Clause and or Amendment. Btw it made it clear the powers that each of the three branches of government where granted thus even though the President wants his wall it's not a law or rule he can Implement by himself this is a great book.

It took me a handful of pages before getting interested in this book, BUT I spent an hour and 45 minutes reading before putting it down.I do recommend picking this one up if your wanting to learn simple tricks to help you improve your mindset. I know a few parts definitely stood out to me and I am glad I found this book.It took me a total of about 3 hours (in a two day period to finish it)I purchased for my younger brother and I know it'll do him just as well.Thank you for reading and hope this helps.

The primary emphasis is on sports competition such as Martial arts . The author is a lifelong martial artist and has written books on self defense and there is helpful advice on training your brain so your body will perform better. There are quick fixes for nerves, adrenaline rushes, panic attacks before, during and after events. Each chapter is preceded by a quote from a famous individual that helps explain the following chapter. There is a lot of information on Sports Psychology, its origins and use by ancient Greeks, Germans, Russians and people of today.Reading this book will be an aid to a competitive athlete but it also can be helpful to anyone experiencing stress, anxiety or difficulties in life as they can apply the principles and practices contained in this book and achieve happiness and success. Recommended.

Very interesting book. As a martial artist, coach and trainer, I have been practicing and applying many of the techniques discussed in this book for quite some time now. There is always more to learn though. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody interested in building a better understanding of the psychological effects that stress has on physical performance, and useful methods of training and controlling your mind. This book is filled with useful information, techniques and exercises. Well done Mr.Pierce!

This is a simple and straight forward book that provides nice tips and tricks for mental training. If you are serious about mental training, and you practice what this book provides, it will make a difference in your mental state. I continue to use all the tips and tricks on a daily basis. It works!

it's a great book it's easy to read and it gives you a ton of tips if you work in treating into some sort of competition or something and you were dealing with anxiety or stress it's also a quick read took me about three days and the knowledge and it is worth retaining.

Essential reading for people in combat sports, LE and the military to prepare for contact with an opposing fighter, criminal or enemy combatant. The mind drives the body and by following the principles in this book, you’ll stay calm, cool and collected when you face the enemy.
