I do not speak or read Chinese; I am impressed by anyone Chinese who tries to communicate in English. That said, I chuckled at the unintentionally humorous and mystifying English signage to be found in China. This small book presents some excellent examples of Chinglish. The book manages to be gently funny and also provides examples that raise deep philosophical issues about English, China and life. This book will make you both chuckle and ponder.

Chinese is a lovely language. A literal translation intoEnglish is hilarious. These signs actually exist. It was really easier just to learn the Chinese characters rather than figure out what the English meant. This book is really funny.

I bought this book as a gift for a family member after seeing it in a store on vacation. He was thrilled to received it as a gift later. So many laughs as the book was passed around during a family gathering and also makes a great conversation starter sitting on a coffee table.

This book has a lot of good examples of Chinglish, but I've seen many excellent examples that I wish would have made it into the book. I would give the book a 3.5/5. I felt it could have been better, especially considering that we could simply google "Chinglish" to find hundreds of funny examples.

There was a foreword that was incongruously long and serious compared to the few amusing signs depicted in the body of the book. I suspect most of them are available online for free.

Fun Books

This is a fun read for someone who enjoys Chinglish. I think it makes a good gift idea. Nice graphics, however usually you can find the same/similar material on websites and enjoy them just the same.

This book goes great along with the stage production and adds to the enjoyment by offering some real signwork produced in Chinese English.

It is disheartening to know that 2019 will be ushered-in with the same inferior product that disappointed so many of us this year. I find it hard to believe that with so many negative responses to the changes made to this item, Audubon is trucking out the same crap. The old design was beautiful, and I see that it is still being offered in other themes than the bird series. I will definitely not be reordering.

I agree that the old format and construction from 2 years ago is better than the current but the Audubon Birds Page-A-Day Calendar is still my favorite. It has fantastic photography.

I looked forward to getting this calendar every year for it's gorgeous, high quality photos and attractive design. Until 2018. Last year, they replaced it with thin paper that tears easily, a perforated binding that is gummy and ugly and I can not express how much I hate the hideous yellow cheap plastic stand. I was hoping they would go back to the old format for 2019, but it seems I will have to find a new desk calendar for this year. Maybe I'll try again in 2020

I read the poor reviews...and I ordered the calendar anyway.If I could give it 4.5 stars I would. My *only* negative comment is that the stand on the back isn't as long as I wish, therefore the calendar lays back farther than I would prefer. So, I propped it up.I read the complaints, but not having had an Audubon calendar in the past, I have nothing to compare it to. The paper isn't super heavy but...it's certainly suitable for displaying a new photograph each day.The background is yellow...again not a favorite, but I didn't buy it for the frame color.The calendar sits on my desk and makes me smile every day.The photography, which is what I *did* buy it for, is perfectly stunning! :D

Love it! Great photos of birds. I love that there’s a different one each day and that the names are included. To that point, I wish there was a fun fact included about the birds such as their normal location. The stand is a little too angled back for me so I’ve placed something under it to point it a little more straight up and down. The people complaining about the yellow - I think it works great with all of the birds, and I see no need to match it to my “decor” as others have mentioned. I didn’t have the previous version so can’t compare. I can say the images are clear and vibrant, the pages tear off easily here in February, and it works great in my office.

Been buying these for many years....this year super disappointed. Yellow!!! The Plastic holder is Yellow! What will that go with in my house, nothing. I'm going to take it apart and spray paint it black. Who thought this was good. Guess they thought it would go with the bird on the cover page...which will be gone. Paper quality fair. Not like it was..but not much is.

New format (2018 and 2019) are exceedingly cheap compared with 2016 and 2017 versions. It is probably still the best bird per day calendar, but, Workmen's Publishing should return to the older, high quality printing and format. This is marginal at best.
