I am going to Tikal and Copan and find this book to be a great source for understanding why these structures were built and what the meaning behind the decorative motifs. HOWEVER, much of the value of the illustrations comes from the overlay of color of various parts of a building or stelae to highlight what each is portraying. This is lost on the black & white kindle but on an iPad or other color reader, it's great.
This was very helpful during our recent visit to Tikal. My sister (who purchased the other Tikal e-book listed) and I had these Kindle books on our smartphones so we could consult them guides as we toured the ruins. The site is enormous with miles of trails and it is hot, so stopping for a bit to read the information in the guides was a welcome break.
We used this guide in Copan and Tikal. The book allows for an interesting tour of the sites. The colored photos make it easy to locate the highlights. In addition there is enough background material to provide a good understanding of Mayan culture. Using the kindle, you loose the color feature. However, on the Nexus-7 tablet, the colored photos and high resolution made it a very good e-guide.
It is a useful guide to places not as often visited as other Mayan sites.
