Better than campus bookstore
School book.
On time and as promised!
I received it 5 days earlier and I am so happy with the product. It have the access code that I wanted and it is even cheaper than the main main FA Davis website.
My wife is a registered nurse. I am on track to becoming a registered nurse myself. I saw this book and I figured let me check it out. I realized that I made a great choice. The textbook is huge! And it is filled with so much knowledge and such valuable information. I use it now for reference in addition to my current textbooks. I find this book to be a much easier read than my current curriculum textbooks. Moreover, I love the pictures and examples which are given. I am understanding nursing much better and I know that I will always need this book for the future.My wife being a RN herself, sometimes sits at nights and starts skimming and reading through the pages. She tells that she needs the refresher and learns new things from the textbook daily.Highly recommended for every nurse and nursing student.
This is an excellent textbook and my nursing program has considered it for adoption. First of all, this book is a comprehensive fundamentals of nursing text with good online supporting help provided to students through Davis Advantage. The book has a code in the inside cover that allows students access to many helpful resources for study and for learning. What I personally like about the book is the focus related to "How Nurses Think" which is really one of the fundamentals of nursing goals that all students need to accomplish. Other units include "Factors Affecting Health", "Essential Nursing Interventions", "Supporting Physiological FUnction", "The Context for Nurses' Work." This text's focus is on the changes occurring in nursing including the changes in nursing students including the rise in numbers of non-traditional students coming into nursing, the various learning styles of students, cultural considerations such as English as Second Language students, and the rise in technology for the Millennial generation. The book is also taking into consideration the concept based curriculum that many nursing schools have adopted. There are online study tools with quizzes and personalized learning plans. The text is comprehensive with "Knowledge check" sections, "Think like a nurse" sections, concept maps, cultural considerations, lifespan considerations, and an unfolding case study with clinical reasoning questions. For faculty, this book (even if not adopted) would make an excellent resource to refer to due to the evidence-based content. Tables and diagrams help explain the content and the use of the Nursing Process is evident throughout the whole text. I cannot say enough nice things about this text and highly recommend it for adoption, students, and faculty.
I'm already a Registered Nurse but appreciate a good textbook when I see one. Davis Advantage For Basic Nursing is a good resource for continuing education or studying at home. Learning doesn't end with a degree - it really begins with one when you are nurse!This large textbook has chapters on many areas of nursing. It begins with Unit 1 - How Nurses Think. As a nurse, I already know critical thinking is a must. This chapter will teach you to critically think - problems to solutions or plans - and outcomes. That's care planning in a nutshell - which is my favorite part of nursing!What's the problem and how are you going to fix it? That's care planning.Unit 2 discusses factors that affect health in various stages and great detail. All of these subjects: Spirituality, Grief & Dying, Culture & Ethnicity, etc. are test questions on your NCLEX. You need to read this unit!Unit 3 is Essential Nursing Interventions, which in laymen's terms is what do you do when you find a problem. Of course, there are many things you can do - starting with prevention - which keeps the risks from becoming a problem. So much good stuff in this unit!Unit 4 is Supporting Physiological Function - which is about your basic organ systems and how they work. Anatomy & Physiology & how its functions as a system to make your body work. Excellent unit.Unit 5 discusses some various areas nurses can work, like Home Health, etc. Trust me, as a nurse, you are never short of options. It's the most rewarding and versatile career you can choose. You have so many options; you never get bored.As always, with Davis products, you get access and codes to online quizzes and study guides - a great investment. Practice makes perfect when it comes to studying for your NCLEX or TEAS, or whatever your next nursing test might be.This is a great textbook! There is so much on teaching - I get lost reading it. If you are planning on becoming a nurse - this is a great resource. If you know someone that is thinking of career options - gift them this book and open their eyes, hearts, and minds to a nursing career! This book is a complete reference to everything you will need to know to pass nursing school! Great leg-up!
My friend is an RN and is studying to be a Nurse Practitioner. We went over the book together and she is impressed by how comprehensive it is. It includes an online component that supplements and deepens what the print book has. Once you put in the code you unlock quizzes and additional resources to further your study. She likes the broad scope, as nurses come to the US to work from many different countries, such as the Philippines and there are sections highlighting the importance of clear communication to those who speak English as a second language. As you can see the book covers basic medical knowledge but also addresses clinical, practical and global concepts. The language is accessible for anyone in the medical field and illuminated with lots of table and diagrams.The only downside is that it's a very thick book - obviously an online version is preferable for portability but for studying at home, it's so much easier on the eyes to use a standard textbook like this.
